The GrW 42 had two distinct variants, an eight centimeter version and a twelve centimeter version. The eight centimeter version of the GrW 42 had the 81.4 millimeter launch tube and a rate of fire of approximately fifteen to twenty-five rounds per minute. The twelve centimeter version had the 120 millimeter launch tube, and a fire rate of eight to ten rounds per minute.
