The Mangekyo Sharingan (万華鏡写輪眼, Mangekyō Sharingan; Literally meaning "Kaleidoscope Copy Wheel Eye") is a heightened form of Sharingan. The Mangekyo Sharingan is distinguished from a normal Sharingan through its appearance, which changes the form of the tomoe seal. The appearance differs from user to user; Miyuki Uchiha and Roze Uchiha both resemble stars, Madara Uchiha's and his brother's more look like more detailed forms of the basic three-tomoe Sharingan, and Riouk's looks like a pinwheel. To acquire the Mangekyo Sharingan someone close to them must die. To expedite this occurrence, most Uchiha throughout history have killed their closest friend in order to meet this criteria. How Roze Uchiha gained his has yet to be explained.
