Beginning in the 1950s, the hockey section of Győri Vasas played in the top-level OB I bajnokság. They completed two full seasons (1953-54 and 1954-55) in the league and withdrew five games into the 1957-58 season. In 1992 the hockey section was revived as an independent club and joined the second-level OB II bajnoksag. The club won the league in 1999 and earned the right to join the top-level OB I bajnoksag the following season.
