The Free Republic was a short-lived country that was carved out of the parts of the southern United States of Atlantis conquered by slave-guerrillas during the Atlantean Servile Insurrection. The slaves had risen up from the whites' yoke by rebellion, the masterminds being Frederick Radcliff and Lorenzo. Frederick Radcliff decided that if the whites did not accept the rebels' demands, the only option was to make a country of free blacks and copperskins. He and Lorenzo became the Tribune and Marshal of the Republic, respectively.
