The Staten Island Coach Company was a bus operating company, formed in 1925 as a subsidiary of Richmond Light & Railroad Co. to operate buses which replaced streetcars operated by the parent company in Staten Island (the borough of Richmond in New York City). However, it was only in 1933 that authority to operate buses was granted by the city, by which time the Richmond Light & Railroad Co. had been reorganized, with its streetcar operations renamed Richmond Railways. Gradually, in 1933 and 1934, Staten Island Coach Co. bus routes replaced the Richmond Railways streetcar lines. At this point, two separate bus systems operated in Staten Island, as another network of bus lines was operated by Tompkins Bus Co.
