The Onyx Hall was built to serve as a distant retreat for a rich merchant family from Solku. It is built from slate, marble and the dark granite from which the building gains its name. The hall is located near a spur of the Brazen Peaks next to a lake known as the Shadis Meer. It is an remote location, isolated from any community and over twenty miles from the trade route that cuts across the Uwaga Highlands. The family that had the Onyx Hall built gained much of its wealth from the slave trade, which proved their downfall. Two hundred odd years ago the family was cursed by a woman whose husband and children were sold to different owner from distant lands.
