[Source] A plasma-grid was a machine designed to cut through rock. In 3.5 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War, Rebel Alliance engineers used plasma-grids to form a smooth construction surface in the rock of the moon Kile's mountainous foothills in order to build a temporary prefab base for the starfighter unit Rogue Squadron. The base continued to smell of burned rock from the plasma-grids during Rogue Squadron's brief time there, which included a quick mission to the nearby planet Gall.
