Rakel Ben-Tzion was part of the Triumvirate of Tarazed responsible for locating and contacting the Andromeda Ascendant, so that they could reconnect with the rest of the galaxy and sign the New Systems Commonwealth charter. Unfortunately after years of Kalderan attacks, many on Tarazed began to favor isolationalism - so much so that when the matter came up for a vote, Ben-Tzion and her pro New Commonwealth faction lost.
