On David Letterman last night, he said he'd not accept the veep nomination, and likened his battle with fellow front-runner Hillary Clinton to two players competing for the starting QB position. You don't (usually) make the loser of such a competition into, say, the punter or field goal kicker. And also, if Obama were to say, OK, I'll be VP, many would throw their support elsewhere.
