Charles Joseph Whitman, a.k.a. "The Texas Tower Sniper", was the spree killer responsible for the University of Texas shooting in 1966; the massacre was the fourth-deadliest massacre at a U.S. campus, behind the 1927 Bath School bombings, the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, and the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
