The Darkness-class Star Destroyer variant was created by the Empire in its last years, although it did not see action until Grand Admiral Thrawn rediscovered the plans. He saw their raw destructive power and, wishing to test them, sent five to eliminate a Republic convoy over Bespin. The raid was successful and the Empire suffered no casualties despite facing and enemy fleet consisting of at least ten Nebula-class star destroyers. They were used until the Republic launched a desperate attack on their hidden shipyards, ending their production.
