Beneath the Sands is the second fortress level of World 1: The Mushroom Kingdom. This fortress is located in a volcanic cavern beneath the desert, surrounded by tons of rock and lakes of molten lava. The region is volcanically active, causing the various magma pools to spew massive geysers of lava into the air, which can kill the player instantly if he's not careful.
