Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, or better known as S.H.I.E.L.D. for short, is a law enforcement agency that often deals with superhuman threats. S.H.I.E.L.D. was also known as Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division and was changed in 1991 to Strategic Hazard Intervention, Espionage Logistics Directorate. However the agency changed its name to the current version during the events of Iron Man. They are also the founders of The Avengers.
