The Metroids were a creation of the Chozo, created with the intention of combating the X Parasite. Their name in Chozo literally translates to "Ultimate Warrior". The Metroids soon became berserk, and were shown to prey on any life form. They have been supposedly exterminated repeatedly by Samus Aran, but they always return, usually through cloning.
