In the game of hockey, to high stick was to raise the hockey stick above one's shoulders. This could lead to injury for anyone else nearby. In 2377, Harry Kim complained about the holographic Nausicaan guard's frequent high sticking. Tom Paris, who had programmed the player to do so, shrugged Kim's concerns off, saying injury was to be expected when you played hockey. (VOY: "Critical Care") In most versions of the game, this action would be penalized.
