Adaptation is the concept that living things change in order to best survive the world around them. For example, if the planet temperature permanently rises then a creature with a lot of fur would find it too hot, potentially reducing it's ability to hunt. Natural selection is a concept linked into this and it is the concept that only the animals best adapted to the current environment will go on to continue the species; the others will have died out, failing to adapt.
