The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) was a Galaxy Class Federation Starfleet starship. The fifth Federation starship to bear the name, it served 2364-2371 as the flagship of Starfleet. She was destroyed in the year 2371 after an emergency landing on the planet Veridian III following combat with a Klingon Bird-of-Prey. Casualties from the crash were light and much of the crew later served on the replacement USS Enterprise-E.
