Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913) was a 19th century British scientist. In 1893, Samuel Clemens heavily attacked Wallace's new theories about Earth being the only advanced life-supporting planet in the universe and that it only existed for the good of mankind. (TNG: "Time's Arrow" )
