Wank is originally a British slang term for masturbation. A wanker is someone who masturbates; loosely, a selfish prick. In fandom, wank--particularly fanwank--refers to anything that gives pleasure only to the wank's perpetrator and nobody else, such as horrible fanfic or stupid arguments about concepts in fandom.
