A cannery was a facility for the processing and packaging of food products in tin cans, in order to preserve them for later consumption. Jack London had once worked at a fish cannery, among many other occupations, prior to his work as a bellboy at the Hotel Brian in 1893. (TNG: "Time's Arrow" )
