Cytology is the scientific study of the structure, function and chemistry of cells. It is roughly divided into two separate fields of study: * Cytopathology the study of detecting disease by the examination of cells. It is the key concept behind a biopsy and is key to an understanding of oncology, infectious disease and immunology. * Cell biology the study of the anatomy, function and chemistry of normally functioning living cells.
