Conan cooks some game by a fire and thinks about Belit when he is attacked by a dozen warriors. Although Conan acquits himself well, he is captured and while one of the warriors, Yorubo, wants to kill him then and there, since Conan killed the war chief, he must be taken before the tribal council. Conan is tied to a stake as the tribe commences with several rituals, but when Yorubo, who has been baiting Conan the entire time, finally gets frustrated with his inability to have Conan quickly executed, attacks another tribal member, Mulla, Conan breaks free and challenges Yorubo to combat.
