Konoe was an elderly maid who chaperoned the young Miya Sasami during her travels as Miya Shisha. Sasami seemed only to love travel, so Konoe feared that Sasami would die an old maid if she did not loosen up, and made every effort to foster romance between Sasami and the most honorable samurai they met during their journeys.
