Roger Wain, the son of a butcher, took the juvenile male lead in a production of 'The Way of the World'. Playing opposite him was Lucille Hewitt who developed a crush on him. Annie Walker thought Roger a nice young man and approved of the developing relationship between him and her ward Lucille. Upon inviting him round for a meal, she was embarrassed to find that despite, or perhaps in spite of, his father's occupation, Roger was a vegetarian. He briefly influenced Lucille into becoming one.
