Douvilleiceratidae comprise evolute, strongly ribbed ammonites from the lower Cretaceous, (Barremian - M Albian), thought to be derived from the Desmoceratidae by way of Paraspitoceras. Early forms from lower in the section tend to be round whorled, later forms from higher up tend to be polygonal or compressed, high whorled. May have umbilical, lateral, or ventrolateral tubercles. Includes 4 subfamilies: Chiloniceratinae, Parahoplitinae, Acanthohoplitinae, and Douvilleiceratinae according to W.J. Arkell, et al 1957.
