[Source] The SSP05 hyperdrive was a model of Class 1 hyperdrive manufactured by Isu-Sim and used in starships to allow hyperspace travel. The modified YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon was equipped with a customized SSP05 that had been jury-rigged "Vandangante style" to Class 0.5. Under his ownership of the Falcon, the junk dealer Unkar Plutt failed to maintain the drive while he kept the vessel on the planet Jakku. This poor maintenance of the SPP05 lead to an energy flux in the motivator, which bled back into Quadex power core and caused a surge.
