The Balkan Girls was a song at the 2009 Contest in Moscow, Russia. Elena Gheorghe performed the song for Romania. It was performed 14th in the first semi-final, following FYR Macedonia, and preceding Finland. Having placed 9th in the initial televote, the song was eligible for the final. In the final, Gheorghe performed 22nd, following Ukraine and preceding the United Kingdom. At the close of voting, the song placed 19th out of 25, with 40 points. In the live performances, dancers portrayed as creatures from Romanian folklore, such as the Iele.
