Thrawn was a male Chiss who served as a military strategist under Eriadu Senator and Senate Armed Services Committee Co-Chairman Wilhuff Tarkin during the Invasion of Utapau. Born on Csilla, Thrawn eventually founded his way into the Galactic Republic where he began studying the Republic military at an early age. Years later, he was employed for his expertise in strategy by Tarkin, who used him during the Battle of Utapau that sparked the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Mandalorian Clans. Thrawn became a Republic military officer following the outbrea of the war.
