Lyra Mason is the daughter of Alec Mason and Samanya. Fifteen years after the Second Martian Revolution, there is an attack on the Mason household in which her mother Samanya is killed, while she herself is kidnapped. Ten years later, Jake tries to rescue his sister from her captors, of whom she then is one of, who comes to the planet with the goal of destroying the Red Faction.
