High Country was a Santa Cruz venue at 931 Pacific that catered mostly to country and western music. There were a handful of punk/new wave shows there in the fall of 1978. The success of country/western shows at High Country caused the Catalyst to phase out shows of that genre. After High Country closed down, the space was reopened briefly in 1980 as Thatcher's.
