When the Car'a'carn, Rand al'Thor, spread the news about the true origins of the Aiel, many were unwilling to follow someone who spread such news about them, regardless of the truth of it. Some of these, all men, joined the Shaido clan who were already in rebellion against him; they were scorned for abandoning their clans and septs, and began to be referred to as the "Brotherless." After a time with the Shaido, many of the Mera'din plan to return to the Three-fold Land.
