A short staff is essentially a smaller version of the quarterstaff that is designed to be wielded in one hand. It can be used like a club, or it can be thrust at the opponent in the same manner as a spear. Its size and weight make it ideal for those who wish to use a staff while keeping one hand free to use a shield or a secondary weapon, or for Small users who can't normally use larger staffs.
