Along with other elements of the final mystery (master keys which disappear after a servant's death, unopenable windows, the unambiguous dismissal of Kanon's true nature after Shannon's death), this goes in hand with Bernkastel simply viewing the Rokkenjima mystery as an intellectual game, rather than a story in its own right.
