Nerve disruptors were energy weapons that directly destroyed nerves and brain tissue. Even the penumbra of a disruptor blast could kill nerves under the skin. They were considered extreme deadly force, and the more civilized planets of the Nexus disapproved of their use. Cetagandan nerve disruptors tended to be smaller and sleeker, but maintained the same level of deadliness of their larger cousins. There were multiple types of nerve disruptor, including "cannon-grade".
