The Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers was formed in 1998 as an amalgamation of the Towns of Massey and Webbwood, the Township of the Spanish River and surrounding municipally-unorganized townships. The new fire service consisted of four amalgamated fire departments: * Massey Fire Department * Shakespeare Township Fire Team * Township of the Spanish River Fire Department * Webbwood Fire Department
