Pathavim Seth-Ottarak was chosen by Brik and Percival to join the newly reformed Green Lantern Corps, and was assigned to the sector that included the planet Garnet (known locally as "Hellhole"). On his first visit to the planet, he touched down and announced his presence to the locals, who immediately opened fire. Their shots bounced off of Pathavim's energy shield, when a "self-appointed anti-lawman" named Trosk stepped forward. He fired at the newly minted Green Lantern, who was surprised to see the bullets rip through the shield. Mortally wounded, Pathavim consulted his ring, which informed him that the bullets were made of gold, taking advantage of the ring's yellow impurity. As he died, Pathavim ordered the ring to find a replacement. The ring flew away, landing at the feet of Jack T
