On the Panel screen, you can place instruments on the dashboard of your aircraft. To alter the panel below the instruments itself, you can either select a different one from those supplied with X-Plane by using the Viewpoint screen, or draw you own Custom Panel. Placing instruments on the dashbaord has some effects on the way the simulation behaves - for example, only systems that are represented by instruments can fail. (ToDo: Someone check this please :-)
