The Council of First Knowledge was comprised of five Jedi Masters selected to oversee the entire academy system of the Jedi Order and the proliferation of knowledge and its storage in the Order's vast Archives. Additionally, the Council personally accepted the responsibility of eradicating any trace of the ancient Sith Empire's teachings and their artifacts throughout the galaxy. Membership on the Council was granted through appointment after a vote of all members. A single permanent member sat for life or until they stepped down, and was known as the Caretaker of First Knowledge as they were responsible for the safekeeping of the Order's greatest holocrons.
