Königsberg is the capital and largest city of East Prussia. Traditionally the nexus of the old Kingdom of Prussia's eastern territories and a church city, the city has developed into a major international center of commerce and as one of the most important European cities outside of the French Empire. The population of Königsberg is approximately 1.7 million and it sits at the heart of a metropolitan area home to about four million, not including the neighboring Danzig metropolitan area to the west.
