On 18 March 2008 Rovers hosted high-flying Swansea City at the Memorial Stadium. Going into the game Swansea were six points clear at the top of the League One table, while Rovers were languishing down in 16th, nine points above the relegation zone, and eleven below the playoff positions. Paul Trollope named an unchanged matchday squad from their previous game, a 1-0 defeat at Cheltenham Town. After the game it emerged that Swansea assistant manager Graeme Jones was arrested and later released pending further investigation following an alleged assault on Danny Coles in the tunnel.
