Norman Bowler (born 1st August 1932 in London) played Frank Tate in Emmerdale from 1989, when the show's title changed name, until the character's death in 1997. Norman is also best known for his role of Harry Hawkins in the BBC's Softly, Softly (later becoming Softly, Softly: Taskforce) betwen 1966 and 1976. He also appeared in The Avengers, Jesus of Nazareth, Crossroads and Casualty.
