Rudolph William Louis "Rudy" Giuliani (born May 28, 1944), is an American politician who served as Senator of New York from 2001-2013, Mayor of New York City from 1994-2001, U.S. Attorney General from 1990-1993 in the Dole Administration, and a U.S. Attorney for New York in the 1980s. A moderate Democrat, Giuliani is widely credited with helping revitalize New York in the 1990s and was regarded as a potential Presidential contender in both 2000 and 2008. In 2012, he was narrowly defeated for reelection by Socialist Rep. Kirtsen Gillibrand on the coattails of the victory by fellow New Yorker Andrew Cuomo for President.
