Kala was a Professor who taught at Starfleet Academy and the Starfleet Junior Academy on Rijar. Professor Kala taught Benjamin Sisko at Starfleet Academy. When Jake Sisko wanted to attend the Starfleet Junior Academy, it was Professor Kala who taught him. Kala, along with Jake and other Starfleet Junior Academy cadets, discovered secrets of the extinct Rijarian species in 2370. (DS9 novel: Space Camp)
