[Source] Ion mines were ionic explosives used as an orbital defense weapon. They were employed by the Sith Empire as orbital defense emplacements during the Great Galactic War. The mines saw use at the Battle over Korriban, where they were made obsolete by the tactics of a Galactic Republic commodore. They were also used by the Kalindan Defense System as part of their defensive network.
