Quadriplegia, or more properly Tetraplegia, is a medical term to describe a person who has paralysis that affects all four limbs and the torso. It is usually the result of damage to the upper part of the spinal cord (above or at the C7 vertebrae). This can be due to numerous causes such as trauma, transverse myelitis, multiple sclerosis, polio or muscular dystrophy. In addition to motor control and sensation, a patient may have trouble controlling their bladder, bowel, digestion, breathing and may also have sexual dysfunction.
