One day, Roushi, Yugito Nii and Carmaru Rinnegan were travelling when they encounter Kisame Hoshigaki, Kakuzu and Hidan of the Akatsuki. The trio then try the Ground Escape Technique, but Roushi and Yugito don't make it. Kakuzu and Hidan chase Yugito into a sewer while Roushi confronts Kisame. In both cases the Akatsuki win and Roushi and Yugito die. This emotionally scarred Carmaru for life.
