Emmanuelle Deschain was one of the forty gillies of Arthur Eld and unlike his queen, Rowena, she wasn't barren and so bore the king a child. She was nearly the victim of the Reaptide Festival sacrifice when the jilted bride of Arthur, Rowena, who conspired with a witch to have her killed. It is through her that the line of Eld continued all the way down to the twenty-ninth generation descendant, Steven Deschain, and his son, Roland Deschain.
