[Source] The Pacnorval sonic dampening helmet was designed to protect the wearer against the effects of sonic weapons. It was light and comfortable, and didn't interfere with the wearer's field of vision. It did make it hard for the user to hear any other noise also, so it was usually only worn by people who were using sonic weapons.
