The centaur is a level-one creature from the Stronghold town in Heroes of Might and Magic IV. A useful ranged attacker with good damage, the Centaur suffers from the short range - unless the target is very close, it only does half the damage most ranged units do at the same distance. The fact that it does just as well in close combat is good, since it only has four shots. Two things can improve Centaur range, and make it far more dangerous: placing it in the tower of a Castle, where range is always full, or finding the Sniper's Crossbow, which gives all ranged units full range.
