Laffy met Duran Duran while assisting Russell Mulcahy during the filming of the "Planet Earth" video. Laffy also served as Mulcahy's personal assistant on his first three features: Razorback, Highlander, and Duran Duran's Arena (An Absurd Notion). Laffy played guitar on early demos of Duran Duran's 1986 Notorious album, when the band was unable to track down Andy Taylor.
